When we started this event in 1999, our mission was to raise money for brain cancer research and to keep Eric's memory alive.  As the event grew, the mission has always remained the same.  With your support over the past thirteen years, we have been able to establish the Eric Wolfe Brain Tumor Professorship which is a perpetual fund for brain cancer research at the UW Paul Carbone Cancer Center in Madison, Wisconsin.  We have also been able to develop and maintain friendships with those that knew Eric and our family.  The current balance is slightly more than $700,000 and the Carbone Cancer Center will have use of these funds forever.

Golf Fore Wolfe & A Cure has been extremely successful because of your support and friendship.  It is with mixed emotion that we tell you it is time to take a break from this golf event.  The 14th Annual golf outing will be the last organized golf event as we know it today.  We are turning our focus to our "sister" event and assure you that tour commitment to raising money for brain cancer research remains the same.  Cara & Rob Olson, Jeff & Tammy Kops, Sandy & Chris Brohman, Becky & Jeff Kaus, Julia Austin, Laura Kleiman and Meg LaFond have started and event called "Run with Wolfes".  This event supports the Eric Wolfe Brain Tumor Professorship.  Our committee will be helping them grow in participants and money raised.  The third annual 5K Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, September 16th.  We hope you will support this effort as you have Golf Fore Wolfe.  To register for the run/walk event, log on to www.active.com and search for Run with Wolfes.

What's it all about?

Eric Wolfe was 23 years old, he loved golf, racquetball, photography, his work and his family and friends.  He was a very energetic, creative young man who had a great sense of humor.  And, he was a second year grad student at UW Madison majoring in Graphic Design when he was diagnosed with Brain Cancer.

The radiation and the chemotherapy treatments were demanding while maintaining his graduate school schedule therefore he had to make the difficult decision to put school on hold.  Eric was later able to work as a graphic designer and free-lance artist – a field he was passionate about.

Dr. Mehta, at the University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center, was his primary physician for his radiation and chemotherapy treatments.  Eric’s early prognosis was 3-5 years.  We had always hoped that a new and more effective treatment would become available to extend his life.  Progress was made, but not fast enough. While Dr. Mehta’s clinical trials made it possible for Eric to survive almost 5 years, Eric died in October 1996 at the age of 28.

Our friends suggested that we do something special that would help continue the medical advancements and at the same time keep Eric’s memory alive.  This is how Golf Fore Wolfe & A Cure (GFW) began.  We have devoted the past eight years to raising money so brain tumor patients will have a better chance to extend their life.  Eric received his treatment at the UW Comprehensive Cancer Center and therefore we have designated this great clinical and research facility as the recipient of our efforts.

There are two major goals with this charitable event:

- To raise money for brain cancer research in the form of the “Eric Wolfe Brain Tumor Professorship”.  It takes $500,000 to start the professorship.

- To keep Eric’s memory alive through a one day event of golf, telling stories and having fun with friends and family.

We hope you will share our passion to raise money for Brain Cancer Research.  We would like to make a difference and increase the number of survivors.  Please send contributions to:

Thank you for your support and for keeping Eric’s memory alive!

Sponsorship Opportunities:

It does not seem possible but it will be our 12th Annual event for Brain Cancer Research and Education!

We have been fortunate the past eleven years to have so many corporations and individuals support our charitable event.  With all the funds raised, we were able to establish the Eric Wolfe Brain Tumor Professorship in December 2007.  Click here for the Summary Report for the Eric Wolfe Professorship.  These funds are being used for brain tumor research by Dr. Mehta in the Human Oncology Department at the UW Paul Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center in Madison, Wisconsin.  We hope Dr. Mehta's research results will provide longer, better quality life for those who are suffering from this terrible disease.

Once again we are seeking your contributions and support for this worthy cause.  You can help us accomplish this mission with your generous support.

  • Corporate/Individual Hole Sponsors  $275 - A sign will be placed on the course recognizing your contribution.  Please let us know what you want on your sign.
  • Event Sponsors  $100 - Recognition in the Welcome Letter

  • Silent Auction Items and Door Prizes – We welcome auction items because they will be valuable during the event festivities.  Please advise if the items will need to be picked up.
